A friend recommended that I check out Bluesky. The droves of users joining the social media platform have me motivated to start posting on this blog again.
Why?
I think it’s a combination of post-election momentum and the open internet.
First, the nerdy stuff. Bluesky runs on the AT Protocol, an open standard much like ActivityPub β most famously known as the standard used on Mastodon. However, Bluesky is a bit more “Twitter-like.” And, there is a team there scrambling to put together a common-sense content moderation strategy; something that Mastodon can’t do by design.
What’s even more exciting about Bluesky is that users are excited. Here are a few posts of excited users whom I respect:
It’s not nothing to see ~50K likes and ~4K reposts. The X, Threads, and Mastodon teams are all wondering, “Now what?”, as Bluesky’s team of 20 starts to eat into their share of a shrinking social media pie.
I’m excited to start posting on my blog with Bluesky support. Take a look at this post’s comment section to see like, comment, share counts and a place to add to the conversation.
See you on Bluesky!
